| | Stonewall Ranch Details Savery, Wyoming SOLD! | LOCATION: The ranch is located in the Little Snake River Valley of southern Wyoming, a very scenic valley with its beginnings on the western side of the Continental Divide and with the river flowing in and out of both states for the length of the valley.
Baggs, Wyoming, thirteen miles to the west is the community center with churches, good schools, a bank, grocery store, motel/restaurant and service stations. The ranch is on Wyoming Highway #70 just over a mile and a half from Savery, which is a small town with a store and the area museum. The nearest town of any size is Craig, Colorado, forty miles from Baggs, which has a wide variety of shopping and other facilities. Steamboat Springs, Colorado, with its ski slopes and recreational activities is only eighty miles from Baggs.
AREA PARTICULARS: The Little Snake River Valley is off the beaten path. Small towns, nice people and a community with many area ranches in the hands of old time owners. The outdoors and what it offers is a way of life. With easy access to large tracts of forest and open space the area offers super hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and other recreational opportunities. All right out the door.
Just a short distance from the ranch is a community complex with an indoor arena and rodeo grounds for the horse lover. At the same location is the local airport. It has a 5,000 ft. runway and is lighted.
Located in the valley are several churches, an excellent school, restaurant/motel combination and limited shopping, including two small grocery stores. Nearby Craig, Colorado offers excellent shopping facilities.
RANCH PARTICULARS: This is one of the prettiest ranches around. It was one of the earliest places settled in the Little Snake River Valley. The Reader family, who were one of the earliest settlers in the area, were told by Jim Baker, an early mountain man, about the valley being a good place to set and they chose a location just off the river with cliffs, good shelter and great scenery. We will never know if that’s what led them to settle on the site but it definitely had an attraction when they could have settled anywhere.
The ranch has approximately 1,250 acres, 159 acres of deeded land, 598 acres of Wyoming State lease and approximately 490 acres of BLM. It has water rights out of the Little Snake River for 98 acres on the deeded lands and 64 acres on the Wyoming State lease. All water is delivered by a pump in the river.
The Little Snake River meanders through the ranch on both the deeded lands and state lease. The river bottom is a mixture of trees and meadows. The pasture lands are sage pasture.
There are two homes on the ranch. The original ranch home, built in 1916, is a two story, cement block home of 2,400 sq. ft. in two stories. It has 5 bedrooms and one bath built in the style of the time. An older home in excellent condition. In addition there is a second home of 2,000 sq. ft. with 4 bedrooms, 3 baths also in excellent condition. There is a shop and storage building at this location. The original Reader cabin, a historical marker, was built in 1872 and still stands in the yard of the older home. The balance of the improvements are limited.
COMMENTS: This is the ideal ranch for the recreational, outdoor and horse enthusiast that wishes to run a small ranch and enjoy the outdoors and a small community.
