Wildlife Resources in northern Routt County, Colorado are some of the best in the U.S. The surrounding Sierra Madre Mountains and Routt National Forest are home to a robust Elk population while Mule Deer are in good health with large bucks seen every year. The private location of Chicken Creek Ranch with large established ranches for neighbors provides for a sanctuary for Elk and Deer in the area with very few other hunters seen. Currently enrolled in a Colorado Ranching for Wildlife cooperative with some nearby ranches, Chicken Creek has the ability to rifle hunt Elk during the peak of the rut in September. Hunting opportunities abound for Deer, Elk, Antelope, Mountain Lion and Black Bear. Through the Colorado Ranching For Wildlife program, the ranch receives 15 bull elk licenses and 7 buck deer licenses for landowner use.
